Creation of the Space
The building was initially opened in 1928 as a place for sororities to meet after a campaign by female students for its creation (1). In getting donations from the student body, sororities, alumnae, women's groups, and others associated with the university, the female students leading the effort were able to raise $250,000 for the building's construction (2).
Throughout its history, the Women's Building has expanded in its use and has hosted many lectures and talks about topics related to women (3). The architecture of the building fits in with the rest of the campus, making it appear to be just like those around it; however, this was one of the first places on campus dedicated to providing a space for female students.
Today the Women's Building stands between Wrighton Hall and Louderman Hall.
